We can offer three different types of skin rejuvenation treatment using our ULTRAcel device – INTRAcel Fractional Radiofrequency Micro-needling (FRM), High Intensity Focused ULTRAsound (FUS) and Grid Fractional Radiofrequency (GFR).
This multi-platform device aims to provide a non-surgical skin tightening and lifting solution, whilst also addressing skin quality, using technologies that are designed to treat all the different layers, or depths, of the skin tissue. It’s not the same as a surgical facelift but will certainly give lifting effects for those people who aren’t yet candidates for going under the knife.
INTRAcel Fractional Radiofrequency Micro-needling (FRM) for skin lifting and resurfacing treatments. This can be used to target the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as treating acne and acne scarring on all areas of the face, neck and décolletage. The radiofrequency (RF) energy from FRM is delivered to the skin via an array of tiny, thin needles housed in the tip of the device. The needles are insulated apart from their very tip (0.3mm), meaning that the RF energy can be placed in a targeted, controlled and precise manor whilst protecting the surrounding skin.
High Intensity Focused ULTRAsound (FUS) within the ULTRAcel device delivers ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of the skin, down to the muscle, to provide the ultimate in lifting by targeting the same layer of tissue which is tightened during a surgical face lift, but without the associated downtime and the invasive nature of surgery.
Grid Fractional Radiofrequency (GRF) is often used in combination with the FUS treatment to optimise the skin tightening results that we can achieve. It can also be used on its own to promote new collagen production and the formation of new skin cells, whilst also firming the face and neck.
Results from treatment are immediate, with skin feeling tighter after your first treatment session, and improving over the next 3-6 months as your body heals and rejuvenates the area. Skin will also feel smoother, as texture, tone and skin quality also improves over time, eliminating wrinkles and improving skin laxity.
We can use the ULTRAcel device and the various treatment options, separately or in combination, to address your full face, lower face for skin tightening in the jawline and neck, for lifting the brow and eye area, as well as overall rejuvenation. A full consultation with our nurse Kerry can determine your primary areas of concern and which of the treatment types available with ULTRAcel can best to used to target them. We would normally recommend a package of at least 3 treatment sessions to achieve optimal results which will continue to improve over time. You may wish to then have a maintenance treatment every so often to keep the upper hand over ageing and gravity!

Your initial consultation will be with our nurse, Kerry who can discuss and evaluate your concerns to decide on the best combination of INTRAcel and ULTRAcel treatments to target your skin. She will take a full medical history and some pre-treatment photographs for your notes. Treatment will be with Jai or Lisa, our skincare specialists.
Exactly what happens during treatment will depend on the programme of INTRAcel or ULTRAcel that have been prescribed for you. The area of your face, neck and/or décolletage to be treated will be covered with a thin layer of special gel which allows use to move the handpieces safely over the skin and a topical anaesthetic for INTRAcel.
During treatment, (which takes between 60-90 minutes depending on ULTRAcel or INTRAcel requirements), you will notice a warming sensation as the energies are delivered to the layers of your skin. We normally recommend between 1 and 3 treatment sessions to get the best results, depending on the level of rejuvenation required.
After treatment you will be provided with aftercare instructions. Your skin may feel warm and tender for a few days. Results will show immediately due to the tightening effects of the heat energy and this will continue to improve over the next 3 to 6 months. You may be required to return for a review appointment and/or further treatments.

The ULTRAcel device delivers both INTRAcel (radiofrequency) treatments and ULTRAcel (high intensity focused ultrasound) treatments, as well as Grid Fractional Radiofrequency treatments. All three treatment types can be used separately, or in combination, to achieve targeted skin lifting and rejuvenation of the face, neck and décolletage.
The radiofrequency energy delivers heat into the deeper layers of the skin to cause tightening and stimulate new collage production, which over time will remodel the area and produce a more youthful appearance. The ultrasound energy also has a tightening effect on tissue, but it does this at a much deeper level than the radiofrequency, going down to the muscle layer, which is the layer of the facial tissues that would also be tightened during a surgical face lift. The ultrasound energy also works by heating and contracting tissue. Both actions stimulate a healing process and the formation of fresh, young cells, both in the skin layers and in the underlying structural tissue of the area, for a long-lasting lifting effect.
The ULTRAcel device can be used to treat all areas of the face, neck and décolletage. We can use the different energy types – radiofrequency and ultrasound – to rejuvenate and lift the eye area, the brows, the jawline and lower face, as well as the neck, upper and whole face.
Immediately after INTRAcel/FRM treatment the area will be red and feel warm to the touch, much like a feeling of having sunburn, which will last for about 24-72 hours. This is a normal reaction to skin healing. Swelling, which may occur around the eyes, and being tender to the touch will last for up to a day or two. Sometimes you may see minor bruising which could take 5-7 days to resolve.
There is minimal to no downtime following the ULTRAcel treatment and normal activity can be resumed immediately. Depending on the depth of delivery of the ultrasound energy, some people experience a deeper sensation of mild tenderness and aching in the face and neck for 3 to 7 days.
Treatment with the INTRAcel and ULTRAcel procedures is safe and done with minimal pain and discomfort. It is likened to a prickling sensation deep in the skin, as well as a feeling of warmth. We can adjust the levels of energy delivery on the device based on your feedback to make it as comfortable, yet effective as possible. Local anaesthetic cream is not normally needed for ULTRAcel but will be applied one hour before INTRAcel treatments.
After treatment you will be given aftercare advice to protect your skin whilst it heals. This will include the use of an SPF30+ sunscreen product which must be worn daily, as well as advice on avoiding sun exposure where possible. Cold compresses may be used after treatment to reduce the feeling of warmth and to provide further comfort.
Post Care Instructions for INTRAcel/FRM:
We advise leaving skin free from products for the rest of that day. Make up can be applied the following day. Avoid sun exposure for the first 2 weeks, after which a good sunblock of factor 30+ should be used. A follow up appointment may be necessary following your treatment, and you will be advised if this is necessary.
Post Care Instructions for ULTRAcel/HIFU:
You can apply make up immediately. Facial massage should be avoided during your course of treatment. If you suffer from cold sores, please advise us as you can be prescribed medication to prevent triggering any heat induced cold sores.
Following each treatment session, you will notice immediate results from the tightening effect of the radiofrequency and/or ultrasound energies. This will continue to improve over the following 3 to 6 months and as you complete the rest of the treatment sessions needed for optimal results. Your body will be making new collagen during the healing process which will firm up and lift your skin over time. Results can last for several years but every person is different, and results are dependent on your lifestyle. Longevity of results will be impacted by factors such as sun exposure, smoking, diet and the natural ageing process. We recommend top-up or maintenance treatments every 6 months to a year, after you have completed your initial treatment programme, so that you can maintain the lifting effect for longer. Our practitioner can advise you on this when evaluating your results after the final treatment session.
